history

Our shrine has long been known as Takebe Taisha or Takebe Daimyojin, and is a historic shrine that has been widely revered as the Ichinomiya of Omi Province, as well as being listed in the Engishiki.

Emperor Yamato Takeru, the deity enshrined at this shrine, defeated the Kumaso brothers, pacified the eastern barbarians, and died at the age of 30. His father, Emperor Keikō, established the Takebe in honour of his achievements.
In the 46th year of the reign of Emperor Keikō (116 AD), a shrine was built by divine decree on Gouchigusadake, which straddles Takebe in Kanzaki County and Nobono in Suzuka County, where Empress Futajihime and her son inayoriwake lived, and Yamato Takeru was enshrined there.
Later, during the reign of Emperor Tenmu, it was returned to Seta and enshrined Okami Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Yamato Province, and since then it has been revered as Omi Ichinomiya. It has been worshiped by successive imperial families and military commanders, and in particular, it is recorded in the Tale of Heiji that when Minamoto no Yoritomo was captured by the Taira clan, he visited this shrine to pray for his future.
Yoritomo later achieved his long-cherished wish to restore the Genji clan, and once again prayed in front of the shrine, donating many sacred treasures and land to the shrine.

Since then, this shrine has been worshipped as a god of career advancement, protection from disasters, business prosperity, matchmaking, and medicinal brewing.
